Rock The Rails is Fort McMurray's premier Skateboarding, BMX and Scooter competition. Rock The Rails is a full weekend of skateboard, scooter and BMX contests and demonstrations for all age groups. We are a fully-accredited Alberta Action Sports Association verified competition. Rock The Rails is a fully licensed, all ages event at the Syncrude Athletic Park. The Action Zone contains the popular “Full Send Stunt Show” from Hazel Eyewear and Hands Up Entertainment, Craft Beer sampling from various Alberta breweries and more. Throughout the weekend, over 20 bands will perform on the Aluma Systems stage. Past acts have included Authority Zero, Teenage Bottlerocket, illScarlett, Choke & dozens more from Fort McMurray, Alberta, Canada, the US and beyond.

Rock The Rails made it's debut in 2019 at the Timberlea Skate Park. Despite it being a chilly late September day, the event attracted hundreds of spectators of all age groups plus 30+ competitors for BMX and Skateboarding. A limited attendance due to restrictions festival occurred downtown in 2020 but returned to Timberlea in 2021 & 2022 for it's biggest years to date, incorporating a beer garden and extended hours for the first time. For it’s fifth anniversary in 2023, the festival expanded to two days welcoming thousands of attendees. Despite snowing the first morning of the 2024 festival, over 4,000 McMurrayites (and action sports / punk fans from across Alberta) dressed warm & braved the elements for our biggest year yet.

Rock The Rails aims to empower youth who can sometimes "fall between the cracks". Extreme sports encourage physical activity, dedication, balance, pain tolerance and a sense of belonging for many youth and helps keep them off the streets.

Rock the Rails is a community not for profit event with all proceeds donated to Justin Slade Youth Foundation. We rely 100% on sponsors to cover costs of insurance, prizes & entertainment fees.
